What to Expect During Mold Remediation
5/24/2023 (Permalink)
We are prepared to assist you at any time and make it "like it never happened."
Mold Remediation
Realizing you have mold growth in your commercial property in Bowling Green, is never a happy discovery, but mold removal can be a fairly straightforward process. It can take anywhere from three to seven days to completely remediate your building, depending on several factors, including how much water or moisture has to be removed and how large the patch of fungus is. Here are steps you can expect mold remediation experts to take to see the process through from beginning to end.
1. Inspection
To understand the extent of the problem and to give you an estimate not only of the time that will be involved in resolving it but also how much it will cost to do so, technicians must inspect the affected area. They survey the damage that led to the growth and take care of it so that mold does not become a recurring issue.
2. Containment
To prevent further spread during the mold removal process, the problem must be contained before mitigation can begin. Experts block off the area and shut down air flow out of it to keep spores from moving to other parts of the building.
3. Removal
All materials infested with mold must be taken out of the building. This includes items that must be cleaned or discarded. It also may include drywall, ceiling tiles and flooring. Mold often roots into porous material, so it is usually easier to replace the material than try to get every spore that has embedded itself out.
4. Restoration
After all mold growth has been dealt with, technicians replace the parts that have been removed and return the items that have been cleaned. It is a good idea to hire a company that performs both mitigation and restoration so that your recovery time is minimal.
Mold removal may put part of your building out of commission for anywhere from a few days up to a week. The benefit of getting the problem completely resolved is worth as much time it takes.

Our SERVPRO team wanted to give back in any way we could, and decided to say "thank you" to all of the first responders who cannot stay at home due to their work. So what better way to say thanks than to provide a warm meal?
Our marketing team hooked up the grill and traveled across Warren County for two days. We provided grilled pork chop sandwiches, chips, and waters to each fire station, EMS headquarters, the police department and the Sheriff's office. The 4 Top Steps for Fire Preparation

Call in the fire department
The 4 Top Steps for Fire Preparation
A business fire definitely qualifies as a disaster. To minimize the effects of a fire on your company a number of proactive steps should be taken. The top four actions to take for effective fire preparation in Plum Springs, KY, include some basic common sense and some smart planning.
- Equip your building with strategically placed smoke alarms and fire extinguishers
- Install a modern fire sprinkler system that protects the most crucial areas of the business
- Educate your employees on what actions to take when a fire breaks out
- Call in the fire department and a local fire mitigation team
Proper disaster preparation saves lives and property. It reduces business expenses and leads to a rapid recovery.
The Right Equipment
The fundamentals of fire preparation demand working smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Alarms alert everyone to a fire quickly while extinguishers can be used to put out a small fire. Make sure someone is responsible for checking on these items periodically for functioning batteries and expiration dates. A sprinkler system brings water to flames quickly and is a great way to limit fire damage. The system will only be activated by flames and will not go off by itself or from small fires such as a lighter or cigarette. A good system can put out a fire on its own.
The Right Knowledge
Employees trained in the best practices of fire response have a crucial role to play in protecting your business. They can direct other workers and clients to the fastest exits and they can call the right people immediately. A faster response gives the fire less time to gain momentum. A small fire will do less damage and result in a shorter period of business interruption. The best fire preparation also takes into account the cleanup of soot and smoke damage in the aftermath. Professional cleanup removes water from the site and seeks to protect sensitive electronics from further harm.
The Most Common Places To Find Mold
9/25/2019 (Permalink)
Mold damage in a Smiths, KY home
The Most Common Places To Find Mold
You may think that mold damage manifests willy-nilly and that you can't begin to guess where it will turn up next. However, if you are aware of the conditions that bring mold about, it can be predictable. Once you have this ability you can more easily combat and prevent mold in Smiths, KY.
In the Walls
Many organic materials are used to build and seal your home, comprising your walls and ceilings. That means that there is a lot of surface area that mold can target. If any of the materials are exposed to moisture and darkness, dry it out as soon as possible and keep an especially wary eye out for mold growth. If these materials are compromised, they often need to be replaced, as they cannot be restored. These materials include:
- Drywall
- Wood
- Insulation
- Wallpaper
- Paint
- Ceiling tiles
In the Air
It is normal for mold spores to be floating in the air all around you, both inside and outside. So, they have an easy time getting into you heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Sometimes moisture can accumulate in your HVAC or swamp cooler creating an ideal environment for those mold spores to thrive, so be sure to check your appliances often for mold damage. You may end up spreading more mold if you try to clean these systems up yourself- you should consider contacting a mold remediation specialist in a situation like this.
In the Bathroom
If mold and mildew like moisture, what room in your house do you think they will enjoy the most? If you guessed bathroom, you are correct. Between your sink, shower, tub and toilet your wash room is a veritable wellspring of potential leaks, drips and water accumulation. Luckily, tile and porcelain are easier to clean than other surfaces, so you may be able to take care of mildew growth yourself if you catch it early enough.
Now that you know how mold works, you can practice targeted vigilance. Mold damage won't stand a chance in your household. Remember, if you can manage your water, you can manage mold!
Commercial Insurance: Is Mold Damage Covered?
7/29/2019 (Permalink)
Mold inside a wall
Three Things Commercial Insurance for Mold Covers
In Oakland, KY, there are a number of different events that may lead to the development of mold. If your commercial property undergoes any event that leads to mold, you may wonder what kind of insurance will cover your mold cleanup and fungus removal. If you have a mold problem in your building, you could be liable. When you run a business, it is your job to make sure that you have all of the proper insurance coverages. Here are three things commercial insurance for mold covers.
1. Costs of Replacement
When it comes to getting to the mold for fungus removal, sometimes mold remediation specialists will have to tear up structures to create access points. If your mold is inside the walls, for instance, you will have to break through drywall or other structures to get to the mold. When you do this, you have to replace your walls and other parts of the structure. Commercial insurance covers these costs.
2. Physical Losses and Damages
When you have limited fungus coverage, then you will have coverage for any physical loss or damage that you suffered because of the mold damage. If you have to replace any part of the building or replace any property, you can recoup the costs. In addition, these losses also cover the mold cleanup itself.
3. Testing Costs
After fungus removal, insurance will cover tests that ensure that the cleanup was successful. Say, for example, that you have the drywall or ceiling tiles replaced; you need to make sure that you got rid of every trace of mold. This will keep it from returning later.
Mold can be a problem in every building. If you need to invest in mold cleanup, it’s important to note that commercial insurance may be able to pay for it. With the right insurance policy, you can have coverage for mold remediation and hire a business to take care of your mold problem “Like it never even happened.”

4 Steps To Take Preventing Fire Damage From a Burned Space Heater
Space heaters can be very convenient, especially if you have one room in your home that never seems to get enough heat from your central HVAC system. Whether you use a space heater regularly or you only pull it out on the coldest winter days, here are four important steps you should always take to prevent fire damage in Bowling Green, KY, from a burned space heater.
1. Clean It Thoroughly
Before you use your space heater for the first time, make sure you clean all visible surfaces thoroughly. Dust and other small particles tend to build up on the heater’s surface and could potentially cause the unit to overheat or catch fire if not removed regularly.
2. Leave Plenty of Empty Space Around Your Heater
Never put your heater up against a blanket, piece of furniture or any other item. If you do, you’re likely to have a burned space heater before long. Space heaters should always have at least three feet of empty space around them, free from furniture, carpets and other items.
3. Keep Heaters Away From Kids
Don’t operate a space heater in an area where kids frequently play. To reduce the risk of fire if a child does accidentally knock over the heater, make sure you purchase one that has an emergency shut-off mechanism. You should also keep pets away from heaters whenever possible.
4. Never Leave a Heater Unattended
Never leave a space heater unattended. If you plan to leave the room for a few minutes or a few hours, turn the space heater off beforehand. You can easily turn it back on when you return.
Following these preventatives steps will minimize your chances of fire damage while warming your home. If you experience a burned space heater or fire damage even after taking these preventative steps, a fire damage restoration professional can help with your smoke cleanup and restoration needs.
2 Reasons To Address Mold Immediately

Prevent Mold Growth in Your Home
The presence of mold leaves behind an unmistakable musty odor. Although this fungus can develop inside a house when it is simply a little too humid, it is more likely to develop after flood water damages the premises. When that flooding is accompanied by sewage loss, the contaminants only exacerbate the problem. Homeowners in Bowling Green, KY should try to prevent mold growth entirely. However, if mold does develop, then you need to address it right away before a bad stench turns into something much worse.
1. Structural Damage
Mold is particularly destructive to certain materials, including gypsum board, plaster and wood. Over time, these materials may weaken and change color. You may not even see the damage if the item is painted, but the paint merely hides the mildew. The only way to ensure your home remains structurally sound is to remove all presence of mold. Certain structures may need to be replaced entirely to make sure your house is safe to live in.
2. Rapid Growth
Mold growth can get out of hand in just 24 hours. It can spread exponentially when exposed to the right conditions. Leaks, condensation and high humidity can accelerate the growth process, causing the mold to overtake entire sections of walls and flooring. Over time, this can lead to toxic black mold.
An even more dangerous aspect is that visible mold is only half the story. If you see mold, then there is a very high likelihood there is even more growing out of sight. You need someone to come out to your place immediately to ensure your house remains mold-free.
When bringing in a professional team in Bowling Green, KY to address mold in your home, it is vital that every sign of it is removed. This includes the mold you see on the wall as well as spores that have entered the air. Without addressing the problem comprehensively, the mold growth will simply resume, sometimes in less than a day.
How Does a Restoration Company Respond to Large Losses?
2/18/2019 (Permalink)
Rely on the leading mitigation and restoration company in Smiths, KY
In the event of a hurricane, flooding, wildfires or other extensive damage in Smiths, KY, independent restoration businesses may find their resources pushed to the limit. This may result in longer response times and lower-quality service. In the event of catastrophic loss, homeowners should seek out a local franchise of a larger restoration company. Here three ways in which this model can improve speed and service quality.
1. Applying Local Expertise
When it comes to storm damage, various regions are prone to different types of disasters. Damage mitigation and restoration professionals gain experience with the types of damage that occur most often in a region. A local franchise combines the benefit of regional expertise with the resources of a national company.
2. Relying on National Reinforcement
In the event of a catastrophic loss, a local franchise may have a limited ability to meet homeowners' needs. A national network of more than 1,700 franchises enables SERVPRO to direct experts and specialized equipment to areas in need. This makes it possible for a local franchise to exceed the service volume of independent mitigation and restoration companies while maintaining quality.
3. Maintaining Service Quality
A national company with industry-standard certifications is a Preferred Vendor of many insurers because of its ability to stand by its work. The structure of this business can enable a franchise in an area experiencing a crisis to call on additional resources to meet local needs. This can ensure that every homeowner receives as fast a response time as possible along with complete, high-quality service.
A company with the ability to call on more than one thousand franchises is better able to respond to a catastrophic loss scenario than an independent mitigation or restoration service. When independent businesses are slow to respond, homeowners should rely on the leading mitigation and restoration company with a franchise located in Smiths, KY.
Mold Remediation: What To Expect

Mold Remediation
Realizing you have mold growth in your commercial property in Richardsville, KY, is never a happy discovery, but mold removal can be a fairly straightforward process. It can take anywhere from three to seven days to completely remediate your building, depending on several factors, including how much water or moisture has to be removed and how large the patch of fungus is. Here are the basic steps you can expect mold remediation experts to take to see the process through from beginning to end.
1. Inspection
To understand the extent of the problem and to give you an estimate not only of the time that will be involved in resolving it but also how much it will cost to do so, technicians must inspect the affected area. They test the building for black mold to identify concentrations where growth is likely to occur. They also survey the damage that led to the growth and take care of it so that mold does not become a recurring issue.
The benefit of getting the problem completely resolved is worth as much time it takes, though.
What You Need To Know About Your Commercial Property Insurance

Fire damage in a Smiths,KY business
Running a small business in Smiths, KY, can be hard work. It can also be expensive. To protect your investment, you probably have a commercial insurance policy. If your policy is like most, though, it is full of legalese. Even though you may not have the patience to read through dozens of pages, you should know how your policy addresses fire damage.
Why Your Company Needs Fire Coverage
When referring to fires, insurance professionals use the following two categories:
- Friendly fires
- Hostile fires
With friendly fires, flames stay where you intend them to stay. Fires in fireplaces or stoves are examples of friendly fires. Hostile fires are those that leave containment areas and cause damage. For insurance purposes, coverage is often exclusively for fire damage from hostile fires. If your business’s policy does not cover these fires, you may have to pay for any damage on your own. Of course, no insurance policy covers fires you intentionally set.
What Fire Coverage Covers
Commercial insurance typically covers the damages your business sustains during a fire. While policies vary in coverage levels, most protect the following:
- Structures
- Outside buildings
- Equipment
- Inventory
If a fire does not completely destroy your business property, you may wish to work with a qualified fire-restoration specialist to restore your company to its pre-fire condition. Your commercial fire policy probably covers these expenses. Note, however, fire insurance does not usually protect your company from losses due to work stoppages. You aren’t out of luck, though, as you can purchase additional coverage to fill this gap.
Even small hostile fires can cause a tremendous amount of damage to the business you have spent years growing. As such, you must have a strategy for protecting your commercial enterprise from fires. With the right commercial insurance, you have the peace of mind you need to focus on meeting customer demands and maximizing profits.
